Fora’s commitment to advancing employment for people with disabilities
Despite progress, the employment landscape for people with disabilities continues to reflect both opportunity and persistent inequity.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2024 just 22.7% of people with disabilities were employed, compared to 65.5% of those without disabilities, highlighting a significant and ongoing gap. Research from the Kessler Foundation further suggests that recent gains have begun to plateau, signaling a need for renewed innovation in workplace inclusion.
In New York, the Rockefeller Institute of Government reports that disability service providers generate $15.6 billion in economic output and support more than 194,000 jobs statewide. Yet, the system remains fragmented and difficult to navigate, often resulting in delays, service gaps, and inconsistent access to employment supports.
At Fora, we see both the challenges and the possibilities. Our work in job development across the public and private sectors demonstrates that integrated, meaningful employment is achievable when services are aligned with both individual strengths and employer needs. From facilities and administrative roles to call centers and animal care, we are building pathways that respond to today’s workforce.
As we look ahead, our commitment is clear: to continue innovating, share our expertise, and advance integrated employment. By strengthening employer partnerships and expanding customized employment strategies, we aim to help shape a more inclusive and effective workforce system.
Closing the employment gap will require more than incremental change, it will take intentional collaboration, system alignment, and a belief in the value every individual brings to the workforce.
